The Beginning, Again, Again.

I decided to start a microblog through the lens of a new philosophy about blogging I’ve started subscribing to in 2026: don’t think too hard about it.

I’ve started many blogs over the last ~28 years(!) - but they all tend to die out when I begin overthinking how to communicate, what to focus on, and how to connect with others through them. I’m hoping to stop doing this and try a new approach: just post. Just post like it’s LiveJournal in 2001 and I’m thinking about which winamp skin to use. Post like Facebook has never existed and nobody admits to using the internet. Post like nobody’s dancing. Post like the wind.

I’m still learning about how to use micro.blog, and it’s pretty distinctly different from all other platforms I’ve used. I’ve used them all, quite extensively: WordPress, Squarespace, Tumblr, Obsidian, Medium, you name it, I’ve tried it… but this one is unusual.

Today I found out, for example, that we don’t use hashtags around here, we use emojis. And this makes me very happy.

😊✨

Bear with me, I will figure it out. ✌️

My husband and I, a man and woman in front of an emoji background, pose with emoji props at Emojicon 2016. I am holding a heart-eyes emoji over my face with one hand, and a pizza emoji in the other. Adam is holding a wine emoji and wearing a smiley face emoji.
